Parade is still on!

Despite the weather, which is cold but clear in Aberystwyth, the Parade is still on today.

It will, obviously, be a smaller event than usual, but there are no safety issues and the roads are clear.

Come and join us and then for a free music session at the Llew Du pub on Bridge St!

 

2018 Parade – Schedule, Route & Participants

Aberystwyth’s 2018 St David’s Day Parade (Parêd Gwyl Dewi) will be held on Saturday 3 March, commencing at 1.00pm from the town’s clock. However, there are events throughout the day and on Sunday. Take note too that this year’s route is a little different to the past.

9.30-12.00am – St David’s Day Mask Making – Meinir Mathias
10.00am – Story and fun session for Children (kids aged 0-4)
10.45am – Rock bands from schools in the Aberystwyth area
11.30am – Costume-making session with Arad Goch

14.00pm – The Welsh Whisperer
15.00pm – Clog dancing with Tasgu

Tafarn y Llew Du Pub, Bridge St – FREE music

4.00pm – Pibau Tawe
5.00pm – Folk Session – bring your instruments, or just come along to enjoy!

Sunday
10.00am – Religious Service in Welsh, at the Morlan Centre
5.00 – Lleuwen Steffan a’r Blodau Gwylltion – Gig for the family at Ceredigion Museum (£10 adults; £5 children)

Route

Because of building work on Terrace Rd we’ve had to change the route of the last part of the Parade. The route is:

Town Clock => Great Darkgate St => Baker St => Alfred Place => Corporation St => Llys-y-Brenin

2018 – Saturday 3 March

Type it into your smartphone, scribble it on your calendar, Saturday 3 March is the date for the 2018 Parêd.

Starting, as usual from the town clock and finishing at Llys-y-brenin. There’ll be a whole host of events including free music on Sgwâr Owain Glyndwr in the morning, music in the Llew Du pub after the Parade and some other new events. Cered will also organise a Bandstand full of free events for kids and the family throughout the day – check out their website too.

The ‘Tywysydd’ (guide) to the 2018 will be Ned Thomas. He’ll lead the Parade.

2017 Parêd – we’re ready!

Aberystwyth’s 2017 St David’s Day Parade will be held at 1.00pm Saturday 4 March and follow the same route as in all previous years.

This will be the Parêd with most events ever.

Geraint Roberts’s new Welsh piping trio, Pibau Tawe, will lead the Parade. They will be followed by the well-known and liked performer and fund raiser, Glan Davies, who is this year’s Tywysydd (guide). Following him will the sound of Aberystwyth Silver Band. Keeping up the pace and joining the Parade for the first time ever will be Samba Agogo.

The Ceremony at Llys-y-Brenin (the ‘old Kind’s Hall’) will be led by BBC Radio Cymru presenter, Geraint Lloyd and Derrick Adams for Eglwys Efengylaidd Aberystwyth will give the blessing. Aberystwyth’s Mayor, Cllr Brendan Somers, will present the Tywysydd. There will also be a special performance by local male quartet, Bois y Fro, who also release their first CD this month.

During the morning there will be free live music on Sgwâr Owain Glyndwr under a gazeebo kindly supplied by Aberystwyth Rotary Club. The music starts at 10.30 with local choir, Meibion y Mynydd, followed by Mari Matthias and then at 12.00, Bois Y Fro. There will also be a host of free events and activities for children in Welsh, but a warm welcome to all kids and young teenagers at the newly renovated Bandstand, organised by Cered, Ceredigion Language Initiative group.

After the Parêd join us for a free gig with Pibau Tawe at the Llew Du pub on Bridge St. at 3.30pm. They will be followed by an open folk session – bring your instrument!

There will be a special St David’s meeting at Morlan centre on Sunday morning.

2016 Parêd – biggest yet!

Aberystwyth’s 2016 St David’s Day Parade will be held at 1.00pm Saturday 5 March and follow the same route as in all previous years.

This will be the Parêd with most events ever. For a full schedule click here.

Gwilym Bowen Rhys will lead the Parêd as piper. He will be followed by the artist, Mary Lloyd Jones who is this year’s Tywysydd (guide). Following her will be members of Aberystwyth’s different choirs who will sing as they parade to the sound of Aberystwyth Silver Band. Keeping up the pace and marching spirit will be the Cambria Band from Mold – who rejoin us since their first popular appearance at the first ever Parêd in 2013.

The Ceremony at Llys-y-Brening (the ‘old Kind’s Hall’) will be led by BBC Radio Cymru presenter, Geraint Lloyd and Lyn Lewis Dafis will give the blessing. There will also be a special performance by Mr Phorumla.

During the morning, harpist Carwyn Tywyn who’s originally from Aberystwyth but now lives in Burry Port, will perform on Sgwâr Owain Glyndwr and also at Caffe MGs. There will also be a host of free events and activities for children in Welsh, but a warm welcome to all kids and young teenagers at the Old College, organised by Cered, Ceredigion Language Initiative group.

After the Parêd join us for a free gig with Gwilym at the Llew Du pub on Bridge St. He will be followed by an open folk session – bring your instrument!

There will be a special St David’s meeting at Morlan centre on Sunday morning.

Parêd 2015 – Success!

The 2015 Aberystwyth St David’s Day Parade was held on Saturday 28 February and was a great success.

This was the Parade Day’s Schedule.

The Parade Route follow the same path as previous years – beginning at 1.00pm at the town clock, proceed down Great Darkgate St, Baker St and finish at Llys y Brenin square.
